Toxic Plant List Empty Toxic Plant List

Andromeda - related to foxglove

Baneberry(also called doll's eyes) - this plant is HIGHLY toxic to most species of animal & to humans! Its oils contain cardiogenic toxins than can have an immediate sedative effect on human cardiac muscle tissue. The berries are the most poisonous part of the plant (hence the name baneberry). Children have been poisoned by eating the waxy, shiny red or white berries. Ingestion of the berries can lead to cardiac arrest and death. The berries are seemingly harmless to birds, the plant's primary seed disperser.

Boxwood - all parts

Burningbush(Euonymus) - berries

Cherry - pits and wilting leaves. Fresh or dried leaves, fruit, and bark are safe in moderation.

Choke Cherry - all parts, all stages.

Elderberry - all parts, all stages.

Fuscia

Hemlock - the plant that is related to carrots, not the tree.

Holly trees & bushes

Larkspur

Lilacs

Lily of the Valley

Lupine - seeds are the most harmful

Milkweed

Mountain Laurel

Nightshade - it is not clearly known if it is only certain members of this family of plants or if it is a moderation issue... eggplant "fruits" have not proven to be toxic... at least in our herd.

Oleander

Ponderosa Pine - not generally toxic, but it will cause abortions in pregnant does.

Red Maples

Rhododendron

Rhubarb - leaves

Yew trees

*This is not a complete list, if you know of any specifically goat toxic plants, please post them in reply. Wink

Toxic Plant List Empty Re: Toxic Plant List

Hi.  Any problem with them eating the evergreen groundcover known as common periwinkle or vinca minor?  I have a brushy area with that underneath it.  I think the goats would like to browse the brush but not sure if the periwinkle would be a problem for them.
