Hello from upstate NY

First of all, I grew up on a farm with acres of hay fields, wheat, corn, potatoes and even tobacco!

We had cows, horses, pigs….but no goats.

As a young girl, I despised helping on a farm – I was longing for a City life.

After 20 years living in a City I started to miss country life!

Bought a land, built a house…Next plan was to get some animals.

Started with smaller pets, such chickens, ducks, etc….

Husband tolerates what I’m doing, but he is not active participant.

This is mostly MY life, my work and my enjoyment with animals.

We do work for a living (from home)

There is no income from animals. On a contrary, a big expense!

But, I have a lot of happiness to be with and to watch my fury friends..

We have about 25 chickens and we all love to eat their eggs.

I’m making all kind of egg salads, using them for my baking.

The difference in taste and color is substantial!

Sometimes we kill unwanted roosters and I cook chicken soup. It is delicious.

We got 3 goats; 2 LaManchas doelings and 1 Nigerian Dwarf buck (he is sort of borrowed for breeding)

Also 2 Guardian Dogs; one is Great Pyrenees male and one is Karakachan female.

Other two are house dogs; American Eskimo and Chihuahua

All together there are 5 cats: 3 of them are barn cats and 2 are senior house cats.

All of my animals are free-ranged. They do have their pens, kennels, houses, but they are mostly foraging free on entire property.

Hello and Welcome!

It sounds like your chickens are repaying you with eggs and meat! Your goats will start earning their keep with milk and kids if you are getting them bred, that will help cut down on expenses. They are a lot of fun to have and they sure teach a lot! It sounds like you have a great set up for your critters Smile
